Old Friends

Dear Friend,

One of my favorite feelings in the world is to catch up with friends. The ones where days or years could pass by and after “hello” it hardly feels like the minutes are ticking. The laughs, the questions, the memories. It’s all wonderful.

Do we every truly appreciate a friendship until time or distance comes between us? Some friendships are made to last and some are just for a time. Both are important and should be cherished.

Some people are in your life for a season and that is okay. I used to feel unloved and forgotten when a friend I valued seemed to longer care. But is that the truth?

I don’t so think any more. I’m grateful to have known them and hope they think of me fondly as I do them.

Sometimes the heartache sets in when the distance is wide and correspondence sparse. It’s okay to grieve friendships that don’t feel up to expectations but we must shine light on those expectations and test their merit.

Is it fear or pride that kept you clinging to a friendship that was no longer to best interests of both?

We are not always a perfect fit.

Sometimes growth and maturity is needed for one or both.

Sometimes life gets in the way and that does not make you a terrible person or mean that you no longer value them.

Giving friends healthy space is giving them respect, and that respect makes reunions all the sweeter.

Have you talked to a friend lately?

Do you feel weird about saying “Hi” after a long time?

Say Hi anyway.

Your friend,
Heather
